Best Kitchen Knife set Under $300 Reviews

1. Shun Sora 6 Piece Knife Set

View on Amazon

The Sora series of knives have blades made of VG10 Cutter, where the top is made of 420J steel combined with a San Mai blade. With this manufacturing technique, Shun is able to keep the price of these knives without having to overlook many issues from a quality and performance standpoint.

The Sora series features a tapered TPE handle that is comfortable and easy to grip. If you want to learn more about Shun knives and knife sets, check out our Shun Knife Guide.

Important Specifications:

  • Weight: 10lbs

  • Size: 14″x4.88″12.38″

  • VG10 cutting core blade

  • Rockwell hardness of 61

  • Brand: Made in Seki, Japan

Pros:

  • Warranty: Lifetime.

  • Full tang

  • Sharp blade

  • Anti-counterfeiting stamps

  • Can add more knives as needed

Cons:

  • No steak knives

  • Relatively small set

Set Includes:

The 3.5-inch Paring Knife conquers the challenge of precise cuts needed for preparing small fruits and vegetables and is a perfect size to be used in hand or on cutting board. 6-inch Utility Knife sports a slim and straighter blade, a dexterous form establishing itself as a prime, in-between knife for ingredients too large for a paring knife.

The 8-inch Chef’s Knife has a gentle roll off the tip of the knife compared to the large roll of a Western-style knife, so the Sora needs to be lifted less, making cutting more efficient. 8-inch blade is an ideal size for handling larger meats, vegetables and fruits.

The Combination Honing Steel is a necessity for proper knife care, with surfaces for daily and weekly honing. Together, Sora 6-Piece Block Set is an unparalleled set.

2. Case Cutlery 9 Piece

View on Amazon

If you love the classic Western beauty, you can choose to own this cutlery set. It not only has a classic beauty, but also brings high efficiency to the user. The knives in this case are designed for outdoor use, are made from Tru-Sharp™ stainless steel and perform admirably.

The knife set has a storage block and all handles are made of walnut. They are, however, slightly less ergonomic than some of the more modern handles of some other knife sets. One of the unique highlights of this set is that it features a tomato slicer, with a set of small serrations that make it easy to slide over tomatoes.

Important Specifications:

  • Weight: 8.9lbs

  • Size: 17.95″x9.09″x5.16″

  • Made with Case’s Tru-Sharp™ stainless steel

  • Brand: Made in the USA

3. Imarku Premium 16 Piece Set

View on Amazon

This knife set has a very functional and versatile design, making it a must-have for the kitchen. The material that makes most of the knives in this set is steel from ThyssunKrup steel - a German steel company.

The knife set features knives that have decent edges and are easy to sharpen, with solid steel held well enough to compete with most other knife sets at this price point.

In this set, there are also super durable kitchen scissors. Besides, the steak knife box is also a remarkable thing with its beautiful design. The significant downside to this knife set is that the material that makes the steak knife - 3Cr13MOV steel - is a lower grade steel than the rest of the knives in the set. However, this is quite common in knife sets under $500.

Important Specifications:

  • Weight: 8.9lbs

  • Size: 17.95″x9.09″x5.16″

Pros:

  • Great performance for the cost

  • Super tough kitchen shears

  • Break away steak knife block

  • Comfortable Pakkawood handles

  • Sharpening rod included

Cons:

  • Steak knives are a lower quality steel than the rest of the set

  • Storage block does not include empty slots

Set Includes:  Knife Set for Kitchen Necessary Knives——Imarku 16-piece kitchen knife set including knife sharpening Rod*1, Knife Block*1 and 9 different kinds of knives, which are Chef knife*1, Santoku knife*1, 6 inch Chef knife*1, Paring knife*1, Utility knife*1, Slicing knife*1, Bread knife*1, kitchen Shear*1, Steak knives*6.

4. Calphalon Precision 13 Piece

View on Amazon

If you are one of the believers in kitchen utensils, you will probably have heard of the name Calphalon - a reputable German cookware manufacturing company that has been in business for more than 50 years. However, it wasn't until 2003 that they started their journey in producing cutlery, and have quickly made a name for themselves throughout the years by producing excellent and quality knives.

Among the sets of knives they produce, there are several that are made with self-sharpening slots built into the block and the set we want to introduce today is one of them.

SharpIn Technology is the name of this product line. Knives in self-sharpening slots are always very sharp. However, when we're technically speaking, the built-in sharpeners are actually sharpeners, since they don't actually remove the steel. If SharpIn technology actually sharpens the blades after each use, they will decrease in size very quickly and need to be replaced.

And of course, not all slots in this set have a built-in sharpener. We can mention that the steak knife slots do not have self-sharpening knives and there is an empty slot without knives.

Important Specifications:

  • Weight:13 lbs

  • Size:8.9″ x 8.5″ x 7.3″

Pros:

  • Lifetime Warranty

  • Full Tang

  • Large set for this price point

  • Very sharp right out of the box

  • Knife sharpeners built into the block slots

  • High carbon, no stain German steel

  • End caps engraved with knife identification

  • Knives in this set are forged rather than stamped (Except for the steak knives)

  • Block includes an extra slot

Cons:

  • Nonstick coating doesn’t seem to work well

  • Steak knives are made from a lower quality steel than the rest of the set

Set Includes:  8" Chef's Knife with Ridge, 7" Slicer Knife with Ridge, 7" Santoku Knife, 8" Bread Knife, 3.5" Paring Knife, Steak Knives (6), Kitchen Shears, and Knife Block

5. Cangshan TC 17 Piece

View on Amazon

The TC knife series from Cangshan has a very nice appearance and a well-functioning die, made by Cangshan - a relatively new company, but with modern manufacturing techniques, excellent design, and good customer service.

If you are looking for a large and quality knife set, then the 17-piece S1 series set is a good choice. Despite their hefty price tag, these knives almost match the performance of many well-known high-end knife sets. The blade of the S1 knife is made of German X50Cr15MoV steel.

On the market today, there are many kitchen knives made from X50Cr15MoV steel. However, Cangshan's ULTRA6 heat treatment process appears to be a good heat treatment technique. We can determine this based on the knife's ability to hold the edge.

Overall, this is a great set of cutlery from a quality and performance standpoint at under $300 that you should have in your kitchen.

Important Specifications:

  • Weight: 16.4 lbs

  • Size: 11.5″ x 9.5″ x 16.5″

  • German X50Cr15MoV Steel

Pros:

  • Great Edge Retention

  • Forged not Stamped

  • Extremely Sharp

  • Lifetime Warranty

  • Hand Crafted Walnut Block

Cons:

  • Handles are a little darker than the product photos

Set Includes: Gladiator Series 8-pc Knife Set Block with Black Handles: Chef Knife 8", Santoku Knife 7", Bread Knife 9", Carving/Slicer 9", Utility Knife 6", Serrated Utility Knife 5.5", Paring Knife 3.75", Honing Steel 10"

6. DALSTRONG Gladiator 8 Piece

View on Amazon

The Dalstrong Gladiator knife set has given users a good experience, when it has full tangs, good balance and is really durable. The Pakkawaood's grip is on par with the ones on the Wustoff Ikon series - an expensive product line, and the tapered support is really nice when using the grip.

Important Specifications:

  • Weight: 12.8 lbs

  • Size: 16.4″ x 14.2″ x 4.8″

Pros:

  • Lifetime Warranty

  • Full Tang

  • High carbon, no stain German steel

  • Excellent quality at this price point

  • Dalstrong has excellent customer service.

  • Great looking Acacia wood block

  • Comfortable Pakkawood handles

  • Forged not stamped

  • Cryo-tempered

Cons:

  • Too much branding on the blade. (Obviously this is subjective).

  • No steak knives

Set Includes: 8" chef's knife, 8" bread knife, 7" santoku knife, 6" boning knife, 5" serrated utility knife, 5" tomato knife, 3.5" paring knife, 2.75" peeling knife, 6 x 5" serrated steak knives, 8" honing steel, 9" 2-piece Shears and a solid walnut wood block that houses each knife perfectly.

7. Wusthof Forged Legende 7 Piece Set

View on Amazon

If you love the classic product line, you can refer to the Legende knife line. It can be said that this is one of Wusthof's latest knife lines, with knives designed to be lighter and more balanced. The most impressive thing about this knife set is that the handle is also a bit more comfortable. The knife set is forged from a single piece of German steel X50CrMoV15 - a fine steel made and it gets even better after undergoing Wudthof's excellent heat treatment.

The extremely sharp edge of the blade, with 14 degrees accomplished by Wusthof's laser-guided PEtec sharpening, makes this knife set with excellent edge retention. Therefore, they will not need to be sharpened as often. The only downside to this knife set is probably the lack of empty slots in the storage block for steak knives

Important Specifications:

  • Weight: 12.5″ x 6″ x 12.25″

  • Size: 4.8 lbs

Pros:

  • Lifetime Warranty

  • Bigger knives are full tang

  • Made in Solingen, Germany

  • Very sharp right out of the box

  • Excellent combination of edge retention and corrosion resistance

  • High carbon steel

  • Laser cut

  • Lightweight

Cons:

  • No steak knives

  • No steak knife slots in the storage block

Set Includes:  3" Spear Point Paring Knife, 4 1/2" Utility Knife, 6" Serrated Utility Knife, 6" Cook's Knife, 9" Steel, Come-Apart Kitchen Shears, and 9-Slot Block

8. Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Signature 11 Piece.

View on Amazon

In this set of knives, including knives from J.A. One similarity in the Hencker Twin Signature line to the Wustoff Gourmet line is that they are stamped, not forged. However, instead of with a cutting angle of 18, they have a cutting angle of 15, and all tools are completely tang.

They are manufactured using the J.A technique, also known as the HenkeODUR stone hardening technique. This is also one of the main reasons why J.A. Henc did not become a household name in every family's kitchen.

When you look at this set of knives, you won't find any steak knives in the slots. With many sets of mid-range knives, steak knives will often tend to be considered the latter, and are often inferior in quality to the rest of the sets. In the 11-piece Twin Signature J.A. Hencker has made it possible for customers to purchase their ideal steak knives and add them to the set at their convenience.

Important Specifications:

  • Weight:  6.8 lbs

  • Size: 17″ x 6″ x 10″

Pros:

  • Lifetime Warranty

  • Full Tang

  • Very sharp right out of the box

  • High carbon, no stain German steel

  • Laser cut blades

  • Henckels’s Friodur ice-hardening process

Cons:

  • Blades are stamped rather than forged

  • Aesthetically challenged block

Set Includes: 2.75-inch bird's beak peeling, 4 inches paring, 5-inches serrated utility, 6-inch utility, 7-inch hollow edge santoku, 8-inch chef’s, 8-inch bread, kitchen shears, 9-inch sharpening steel.
